π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Cook With the Kids. This broccoli mac bake is cheesy, cosy and way easier than it looks. Chooki's Original Chicken Salt gives the sauce that proper savoury hit, and the crunchy top makes it disappear fast.
- 300g macaroni
- 1 small broccoli, cut into small florets
- 40g butter
- 2 tablespoons plain flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar
- 2 teaspoons Chooki's Original Chicken Salt, plus extra to finish
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
Step 1: Boil
Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Cook the macaroni for 2 minutes less than the packet says. Add the broccoli for the last 2 minutes, then drain well.
Step 2: Stir
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in the milk a bit at a time until smooth, then cook for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in the cheddar and Chooki's Original Chicken Salt until glossy.
Step 3: Bake
Heat the oven to 200Β°C. Tip the macaroni and broccoli into the cheese sauce and stir to coat. Spoon into a baking dish, scatter over the breadcrumbs and a little extra chicken salt, then bake for 20 to 22 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Step 4: Serve
Let it sit for 5 minutes so the sauce settles, then spoon it into bowls while the top is still crunchy.
Tip: If your kids aren't sold on broccoli, chop it extra small so it melts right into the cheesy sauce.
